Catholic Schools Week Highlight: Diaper Drive

The five Duluth Area Catholic Schools including Holy Rosary, St. James School, St. John's the Evangelist School, St. Michael's Lakeside School and St. Rose School collected baby items for the Women's Care Center during Catholic Schools Week as a new coordinated service project.  Students in kindergarten through 8th grade participated. HRS collected 4,487 diapers to add to 6,120 wipes, 126 pairs of socks, 103 onesies, 6 cans of baby formula, 33 bottles of lotion, 12 bottles of shampoo, 12 tubes of balm along with laundry soap, blankets, changing pads, baby towels, bibs, outfits, books, hats and gloves, sweaters, toys and swim goggles. This capped a week of special events at each campus in conjunction with Catholic Schools Week, a national recognition of the benefits and contributions Catholic schools give to their communities.
Congratulations to HRS Top S-p-e-l-l-e-r-s

On Monday, January 30, 2012, HRS’ six top spellers left the Holy Rosary parking lot a little nervous, but very excited for the Diocesan Spelling Bee held at Queen of Peace School in Cloquet. The six spellers who competed at the Diocesan level were: Ethan Riddle (Gr. 3) and Natalie Goetzman (Gr. 3) for Division II and Kate Ferrari (Gr. 8), Molly Gaertner (Gr. 7), Angela Park (Gr. 6) and Rianna Amberg (Gr. 6) for Division I. The competition was tough, but our six Royals behaved liked royalty with poise, confidence and grace. Holy Rosary was well represented, finishing with applause and pictures. Kate Ferrari took 2nd place in the Division I Bee. Congratulations, Kate!
